Rural Texas hospitals get a state fund to help keep their doors open
What it does
HB 18 creates state grant and support programs for health care in rural counties, including help for struggling hospitals, labor and delivery units, and emergency care. It funds training and technical assistance so small hospitals can stay financially stable. The programs are run through state health agencies.

If you live outside a metro area, this is aimed at keeping the nearest emergency room and maternity ward from closing. Families in rural counties may face shorter drives for childbirth and emergency care where a hospital uses the money to reopen a service line.
