State forms and records now define male and female by reproductive biology
What it does
HB 229 writes a single legal definition of male and female into state law based on reproductive anatomy at birth. State and local agencies that collect information about people must record sex using that definition. It applies to government data collection, not to private companies.
What it means for your community
Driver license records, birth records, and other state paperwork use the sex listed at birth. For transgender Texans, that means state documents may not match the gender they live as, which can complicate travel, benefits, and job paperwork.
