HB 9Signed into law; approved by voters in November 202589th Regular Session (2025)
Small businesses skip property tax on their first $125,000 of equipment
What it does
HB 9 raises the amount of business personal property, such as tools, computers, and equipment, that is exempt from local property tax. Voters approved the matching constitutional amendment in November 2025. The state covers part of the revenue schools lose from the change.
What it means for your community
If you own a shop, salon, food truck, or small office, most of your equipment now falls below the taxable line and you may drop off the appraisal roll entirely. Cities and counties collect less from small business accounts, which shows up in local budget debates.
